Training & Certification: OS X Lion Program Update

Overview

In July, Apple will release OS X Lion, the latest version of the world's most advanced operating system.

Beginning with the release of Lion, Apple Training & Certification will make some program changes. The information below provides the details that trainers and training centers will need to plan OS X Lion training.

Support Essentials and Server Essentials

Snow 101 and 201 will be the only classes updated for OS X Lion. This change allows both Apple and AATCs to focus resources in the areas most popular with Apple customers.

Updated OS X Support Essentials and OS X Server Essentials books, courses, and exams are expected to be available in late summer and fall, respectively. Dates will be shared when finalized.

Lion courses will be added to the AATC Portal for scheduling in late summer, and Snow Leopard courses will remain on the schedule through January 2012.

Course Materials

Trainer materials for Lion 101 and 201 courses will be available on ATIS after the books and exams have been published. These materials will be updated regularly.

Student kits will be available from Peachpit with the following new benefits:

  • Substantially lower price (details to be posted to ASW soon)
  • Both digital and print versions will be available
  • New lay-flat binding for print workbooks

Lion Certifications

The following Lion certifications will be available:

  • Apple Certified Associate: Mac Integration 10.7
  • Apple Certified Support Professional 10.7 (ACSP)
  • Apple Certified Technical Coordinator 10.7 (ACTC)

Snow Leopard certifications do not expire, and these exams will continue to be available through January 2012. Thetraining.apple.com website will be updated with new course and exam information when Lion becomes available for download. (Update—July 13, 2011: the training.apple.com website is down. We are working on a fix and will update this note as we have more information.)

AATCs and AATCEs will become the sole providers of proctored Apple certification exams. OS X Lion Support and Server Essentials certification exams will not be available at Prometric test centers.

Trainer Certification

Existing Snow 101 ACTs can certify for Lion with an online T3 and Trainer Exam.

Existing Snow 201 ACTs can certify for Lion with a classroom T3 and Trainer Exam. The initial T3 will be held in the fall. Details will be posted on ASW when available.

Advanced Training Topics

The Training & Certification team will develop a variety of advanced modules for delivery on Apple Sales Training Online (ASTO). This training will be available to everyone with ASTO access, including AATCs and ACTs.

Whenever possible, the source information and learning objectives for these ASTO modules will be shared with AATCs to support independent development of custom courses.

AATCs are always free to develop training on Apple products as long as that training does not overlap with existing Apple certification courses. Because Apple will not be updating the Deployment, Directory Services, or Security & Mobility courses, AATCs are free to develop custom courses on these topics.
