Apple Lion Certifications

Training & Certification: OS X Lion Program Update

Overview

In July, Apple will release OS X Lion, the latest version of the world's most advanced operating system.

Beginning with the release of Lion, Apple Training & Certification will make some program changes. The information below provides the details that trainers and training centers will need to plan OS X Lion training.

Support Essentials and Server Essentials

Snow 101 and 201 will be the only classes updated for OS X Lion. This change allows both Apple and AATCs to focus resources in the areas most popular with Apple customers.

Updated OS X Support Essentials and OS X Server Essentials books, courses, and exams are expected to be available in late summer and fall, respectively. Dates will be shared when finalized.

Lion courses will be added to the AATC Portal for scheduling in late summer, and Snow Leopard courses will remain on the schedule through January 2012.

Course Materials

Trainer materials for Lion 101 and 201 courses will be available on ATIS after the books and exams have been published. These materials will be updated regularly.

Student kits will be available from Peachpit with the following new benefits:

  • Substantially lower price (details to be posted to ASW soon)
  • Both digital and print versions will be available
  • New lay-flat binding for print workbooks

Lion Certifications

The following Lion certifications will be available:

  • Apple Certified Associate: Mac Integration 10.7
  • Apple Certified Support Professional 10.7 (ACSP)
  • Apple Certified Technical Coordinator 10.7 (ACTC)

Snow Leopard certifications do not expire, and these exams will continue to be available through January 2012. Thetraining.apple.com website will be updated with new course and exam information when Lion becomes available for download. (Update—July 13, 2011: the training.apple.com website is down. We are working on a fix and will update this note as we have more information.)

AATCs and AATCEs will become the sole providers of proctored Apple certification exams. OS X Lion Support and Server Essentials certification exams will not be available at Prometric test centers.

Trainer Certification

Existing Snow 101 ACTs can certify for Lion with an online T3 and Trainer Exam.

Existing Snow 201 ACTs can certify for Lion with a classroom T3 and Trainer Exam. The initial T3 will be held in the fall. Details will be posted on ASW when available.

Advanced Training Topics

The Training & Certification team will develop a variety of advanced modules for delivery on Apple Sales Training Online (ASTO). This training will be available to everyone with ASTO access, including AATCs and ACTs.

Whenever possible, the source information and learning objectives for these ASTO modules will be shared with AATCs to support independent development of custom courses.

AATCs are always free to develop training on Apple products as long as that training does not overlap with existing Apple certification courses. Because Apple will not be updating the Deployment, Directory Services, or Security & Mobility courses, AATCs are free to develop custom courses on these topics.

QuickBooks and Lion compatibility

Like a lot of Mac users, everyone here on the QuickBooks for Mac team is excited about the upcoming release of Mac OS 10.7 “Lion.” You may be wondering how Lion will affect you as a QuickBooks for Mac user.

At this time, no version of QuickBooks for Mac is supported on Lion. We are working hard testing QuickBooks 2011 for Mac with Lion and will keep you posted on compatibility.

QuickBooks 2010 for Mac and earlier
Although QuickBooks 2010 for Mac and earlier versions may run on Mac OS X 10.7, some features may not run correctly. These versions of QuickBooks were designed and built to run on the Mac OS version that was available at that time, not Mac OS X 10.7. (We’re sorry. Our accountants made us do it.) You can read more here:http://bit.ly/qyca5F

So what should you do?
Just keep using QuickBooks with your current, supported Mac OS X version. This will help ensure your financial data remains safe and you can continue working without disruption. The last thing we want is for QuickBooks not to work properly when you need it to. If you must upgrade to Lion, you can set up a separate Snow Leopard partition on your Mac to continue running QuickBooks. You can learn more about setting up a partition at this article by Apple:http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4722

Lion Server Pricing

Lion Server will be an extra $50 via the Mac App Store

June 6, 2011 4:42 PM

Apple today announced that the next version of Mac OS X, 10.7 "Lion," will ship next month. While the company had previously stated that Lion Server would be integrated into the standard client version, the company quietly revealed today that it will actually be a separate $50 purchase from the Mac App Store.

Lion Server will include a number of new improvements, including iPad-compatible WebDAV file sharing, updated Mail, iCal, and Wiki servers, the ability to send push notifications, and an improved version of the Xsan file system. It also includes the new Profile Manager, which allows admins to easily set up users and groups, and configure security settings for Macs and iOS devices. It also adds Web-based remote management.

Apple says that downloading and installing the Server App turns any Mac running Lion into a server. What's not clear from Apple's two conflicting announcements is how exactly that works. Even the client version of Snow Leopard includes many of the features of Snow Leopard Server, though it would be up to an experienced admin to configure and manage those services via the command line.

Lion's Server App includes a slick graphical user interface for turning all of Lion's services on and off, managing users, and more. But will the other features, such as iCal server and Xsan administration, be limited to those that have paid the extra $50? Apple did not respond to our request for clarification as of publication time.

Lion itself will sell for $29.99 via the Mac App Store. Most previous Mac OS X versions cost $129, but Apple elected to sell Snow Leopard for $29. The reasoning was that Snow Leopard was mostly under-the-hood changes, and Apple wanted to ensure quick adoption as it laid the foundation for future Mac OS X updates. Apple senior vice president of worldwide marketing, Phil Schiller, echoed that same reasoning behind Lion's pricing.

"We love it so much that we want to make it available to even more people," Schiller said during the WWDC Keynote on Monday.

Previous versions of Mac OS X Server cost upwards of $999 or more for an unlimited user license, while Snow Leopard Server dropped the price to just $499. Lion Server is cheap by comparison at $49.99, especially considering it integrates the $999 Xsan filesystem. Still, the price may come as a disappointment for those that expected the update to be included with Lion.

Lion Compatibility – Please wait.

July 11, 2011 on 1:19 am | AJ

Without a clear date of when Lion will ship, we want to inform you of an important, recently introduced, incompatibility. If you depend on Daylite or Billings Pro (Self Serve) for your business, you should wait to upgrade to Lion until we give it the all-clear.

The latest GM seed (GM is short for “Gold Master”, which is how Apple labels their final version of a beta) of Lion has broken a couple of things and it affects both Daylite and Billings Pro (Self Serve). Billings is fine and we will release an update shortly (3.7.1).

Both Daylite & Billings Pro (self-serve) will not connect or sync over VPN or the Internet. They work fine on a local network.

Both Daylite Server and Billings Pro Server are not able to sync with Touch devices.

We’ve submitted the issue to Apple and it’s been acknowledged as a bug in the OS.
All the workarounds we’ve attempted have come up short.

Please note that these functions worked fine until the GM seed. We had other minor issues that we have addressed in Daylite, Daylite Server 3.15 and Billings Pro, Billings Pro Server 1.5.2. Neither of these versions have been released yet because of this new issue.

Considering this seed has been labeled as a “GM”, we are not sure if there will be a second GM (which sometimes happens) or if we have to wait for 10.7.1.

In summary:

  • Billings 3.7.1 works fine on Lion
  • Billings Pro 1.5.2 with Marketcircle Cloud works fine on Lion
  • Billings Pro 1.5.2 on Lion connected to Billings Pro Server on 10.6 on the local network works fine
  • Daylite 3.15 with a personal database works fine on Lion
  • Daylite 3.15 on Lion connected to Daylite Server on 10.4/10.5/10.6 on the local network works fine
  • DMI 2.8 works fine

If you configuration falls outside of this, please wait until we give the go-ahead.|

Quicken and Apple OS 10.7 Compatibility

Is Quicken for Mac Compatible with Mac OS 10.7 Lion?

Updated: 7/05/2011 | Article ID: 8207

Will Quicken for Mac work on the new Mac operating system, Lion (Mac OS X 10.7)?

Currently, Quicken for Mac 2005, 2006 or 2007 will not work on Lion.  However, Quicken Essentials for Mac will work on Lion. If you are using Quicken Essentials for Mac, make sure you are on the latest Quicken Essentials patch version for full compatibility.

Why will Quicken for Mac not work on Lion, Mac OS X 10.7?

Quicken for Mac 2005, 2006 and 2007 were originally built for the older PowerPC architecture, and were able to run on newer Intel-based Macs due to an Apple technology called Rosetta. As of Mac OS X 10.7, Apple has discontinued support for Rosetta.

What are your plans related to personal finance solutions for Apple customers?

We are committed to supporting Apple products and our Mac customers. We are actively working on a personal finance solution for the iPad, as well as continuing to deliver the highly rated Mint.com iPhone application. In addition, we are evaluating options for Quicken Essentials for Mac.

What are my options?

If you do not plan on upgrading to Lion (Mac OS X 10.7), no action is required. You can continue using Quicken 2005, 2006 or 2007 as is.

If you plan on upgrading to Lion, you have a few options.

  1. Try Quicken Essentials for Mac - For a limited time you can receive 50% off the regular price!
    • You can easily import your data from Quicken 2005, 2006 or 2007 into Quicken Essentials for Mac.  Just be sure you upgrade and transfer your data on your current operating system. It will not import on Lion.
    • This option is ideal if you do not track investment transactions and history, use online bill pay or rely on specific reports that might not be present in Quicken Essentials for Mac.
  2. Try Mint.com
    • You can set up an account in less than 5 minutes.
    • This option is ideal if maintaining your transaction history is not important to you.
  3. Move to Quicken Windows
    • You can easily convert your Quicken Macdata with the exception of Investment transaction history. You will need to either re-download your investment transactions or manually enter them.
    • This option is ideal if you use Quicken to track investments.

Title:
HP ProCurve Switch - Reset to factory defaults on ProCurve Switch 1810G series
Available Part Numbers:
J9449A HP ProCurve 1810G-8 Switch,J9450A HP ProCurve 1810G-24 Switch
Issue Description:
How do I reset factory defaults on the ProCurve Switch 1810G series?
Solution:
When the “Clear? button is pressed with the “Reset? button, any configuration changes you may have made through the switch console, the web browser interface, and SNMP management are removed, and the factory default configuration is restored to the switch.
Specific steps to execute the factory default reset on the switch are:
1. Using a small, thin tool with blunt ends (such as a paper clip), simultaneously press both the Reset and Clear buttons on the front of the switch.
2. Continue to press the Clear button while releasing the Reset button.
3. When all three Mode LEDs (Act, FDx, and Spd) begin to blink, release the Clear button.
The switch will then complete its self test and begin operating with its configuration restored to the factory default settings.
Note: After completing this procedure, there will be no password, the IP address will be returned to the default 192.168.2.10, and all configuration settings will be returned to factory defaults.
